Birthday Pin Featured in Netflix’s The Vince Staples Show

Birthday Pins - The Vince Staples Show

As you must know by now we’re always looking for buttons in popular media. When we find one we turn into that Leo pointing at the TV meme 👈 😀. We recently jumped out of our chair when we saw birthday pins featured in a plot line of an episode of a new limited series on Netflix!

The Vince Staples Show on Netflix is written by and starring Vince Staples, a successful rapper and internet personality. The series is experimental and at times amateurish but it has a dark sense of humor and is extremely bingeable at just 6 short episodes.

The Vince Staples Show

Vince’s unimpressed and serious attitude permeates through the series as he encounters wild characters, some of them grounded in reality and perhaps some of them psychedelic hallucinations. Like we see in episode four “Red Door”.

In this episode Vince has to take his girlfriend and her little brother plus friends to an amusement park called Surf City. This low quality theme park is full of insane employees and surreal experiences.

Early in the episode Vince is sent to get a birthday pin for his girlfriend’s brother when he encounters some rude information desk employees and has an ominous run-in with the park’s surfer mascot “Dude”.

The employees give him a hard time about being an adult and asking for a birthday pin, which are for kids only. Check out the clip (some adult language) below to see Vince grab those birthday pins!

The birthday pin makes an appearance later in the episode when Vince’s girlfriend shows it to another rude park employee in her attempt to get a birthday discount at the gift shop.

Birthday Pins - The Vince Staples Show

We’ve had a wide range of theme parks order custom button pins over the years. They’re a fantastic keepsake for park guests because they can fit in your pocket or you can securely wear them at the park all day! Some parks create collectable buttons for each of their roller coasters, and others have birthday buttons very similar to the ones in this episode of The Vince Staples Show.

Keep your eyes open for more buttons in the media and let us know if you see any. We’ll be watching!

Godzilla X Kong Features a Character Who LOVES Pin-Back Buttons

Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire

When we saw the trailer for the new Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire movie we immediately were struck by the costume for the character Bernie Hayes (Actor Brian Tyree Henry). Hayes is a recurring character from the 2021 movie Godzilla VS Kong. But as sequels often ramp things up to a new level, he’s looking particularly cool thanks to one excellent costume choice.

Bernie’s leather vest is absolutely loaded up with various button pins and everything that we love making at Pure Buttons!

Bernie Hayes in Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire

In the trailers for the film, the character has many quick appearances which reveal that he wears a variety of pin-back buttons on his vest as well as patches and lapel pins. In the closeup above we can spot a 1 inch button with a peace sign and a larger button design that may be depicting Bigfoot or Kong himself.

Compared to the rest of the costume design of “normal people” featured in the trailer the buttons are really a wild choice.

From the shots and reactions Bernie Hayes shows in the trailer it seems as if he is more of an “Every Man” character and the audience will identify with his reactions to the craziness around him. What’s more grounded than pin-back buttons?

We hope there are some closeups of this beautifully decorated vest in the movie so we can make out some of the other button designs. Unfortunately the trailers move too quickly to make them out.

Check out the trailer below, which according to normal people, has a few (slightly) more exciting things in it than custom buttons. Godzilla is glowing pink for some reason, and King Kong has a robot arm (of course).

This trailer #2 which has a lot more shots of Bernie and his button & pin clad vest:

Obviously we have a fan of custom buttons in this movie’s costume designer Emily Seresin. We couldn’t be more excited to see buttons like the ones we make given such a high profile appearance! Thank you Emily!

Stray Badges! Custom Buttons Featured in Game of the Year!

Stay Badges - All 6 collectible button badges

We took a some time over the Thanksgiving break to enjoy the 2022 Game of the Year Stray and what we found was exciting! In many video games there are hidden collectables to hunt for. Sometime’s these items are random bits of treasure, but the in-game collectable in Stray is none other than our favorite pin-back buttons. The game calls them “Badges” which is more of a european term, due to Stray’s French development origins. In USA, we like to call them “Custom Buttons“! or even Pure Buttons preferably!

Stray is a video game by BlueTwelve Studio, a developer headquartered in Montpellier, France. The game took the world by storm when it was revealed that you play the entire game as a tabby cat. You see an entire post-apocalyptic world through the eyes of a kitty with the help of a small robot drone. There are no people in Stray’s world, but sentient robots live and work inside a domed city with different levels to explore.

Stray Cat Badge Location

Stray was a fun experience and worth looking into if you like to play video games. It has some simple puzzle solving as well as survival horror and stealth elements. Plus, collectable button badges!

You may be looking for a list of stray badges and locations, and if so, you’ll want to head over to IGN for that. In all, there are six button badges to collect within the game.

Here’s an IGN video of How to get Every Badge in Stray:
